Longevity Series: Tips For A Longer Life

Adults certainly are taking better care of themselves to add years to their lives and take a few off their physical appearance at the same time. Searching for the most effective keys to longevity may take some patience and trial and error, but if you stick to the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle you will have long-lasting results that your body will thank you for.

To begin, living a healthier lifestyle that is geared for a longer life requires incorporating fitness into your weekly routine. Not exactly weight lifting or skiing, just some form of activity (preferably one you enjoy) at least three times per week. Along with being active on a regular basis, consuming the right foods can be one of the most important keys to longevity. Everyone knows to avoid foods that are high in sugars and fats, but you should also explore the endless list of foods that have been proven to ward off harmful diseases and add years to your life as well. For example, green tea has been utilized in weight loss by speeding up the metabolism but it can also protect your body from certain forms of cancer. Any foods that are rich in anti oxidants such as blueberries, acai berries or pomegranates have the ability to work as anti-inflammatory agents, as well as slowly reverse damage done to the skin and body by free radicals. Consuming healthy foods will help your body prevent premature aging from the inside out.

Another longevity tip that goes hand in hand with proper nutrition is the actual amount of food you consume daily. Picture measuring the quantity of your foods much like putting gasoline in your car, your car needs fuel to operate on a daily basis much like your body needs food. You would not however, overfill your car with gasoline and the same principal applies to eating. You eat to provide nutrients to energize your body and too many adults as well as children are snacking all day out of boredom or as a result of their emotions. Being overweight can deduct several years from your life. It can lead to a heart attack, high cholesterol, poor fatigue and diabetes which are all health ailments you want to avoid to live a longer life.
The medications you take may not all be necessary for your body to function day-to-day. Think of decades ago when people didn’t run to their medicine cabinets for all of their minor aches and pains. The more medications you put into your body, the more dependent you become of it.

Check with your family doctor and review all the medications you’re currently taking to ensure they’re all necessary as well as safe to take together. One of the most overlooked keys to longevity is to stay busy, plain and simple. If you are of the retirement age and find yourself having extra time on your hands it is strongly encouraged to join a group, club or volunteer at a local business to maintain a social balance in your life. Doctors have proved that relationships and engaging in dialogue with others is what a healthy mind and heart craves, which is at the top of the list of longevity tips for a long, healthy and pleasure-filled life.

-I agree wholeheartedly! Exercise alone will make you feel better, you will be surprised once you get into a routine that works for you how much less you will be popping those Motrin tabs.
